Understanding Web Analytics
As per Wikipedia “Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage”.
In a simplistic way Web Analytics is all the efforts you do to understand the internet data, its behavior, patterns, usages, testing, assumptions & anything to measure the performance of your website and marketing campaigns.
For a small business it is very difficult to hire a consultant and do all such analysis on the other hand there are numerous tools available for free for all such interpretation and mining. I will discuss about many of them in my future posts.
So, suppose that now you have a free analytics tool which you wish to use I will suggest Google Analytics. Normally installation is easy and you need to put some small code or script on every page of your website and it starts showing you different reports. Now the question comes that what to see and what is the meaning of different terms used in the reports. Let’s go through them one by one in each of my Posts.
